The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is working with the US to try to get fugitive former monk Luang Pu Nen Kham to stand trial in Thailand. 

Luang Pu Nen Kham, who goes by the name Wirapol Sukphol, 35, is believed to be hiding in the US.

Pol Lt Col Phong-in Intrakhao, the commander of the DSI's National Security Bureau, said Monday he has asked the Crime Suppression Division to prepare briefs to file five charges - both civil and criminal - against Mr Wirapol.

Mr Wirapol already faces two civil charges including money laundering and deceiving people by making false claims about possessing supernatural powers.

The criminal charges Mr Wirapol faces include having sex with a minor, abduction of a child and violating Thailand's Computer Crime Act by posting deceitful information.

Because of all the charges, the former monk was defrocked in absentia by senior monks. The DSI has also filed several charges against him including manslaughter, false advertising, tax evasion, drug taking, making false claims about receiving a doctorate degree, and money laundering.
